Will a new car with 18″ wheels be a problem e.g., bending rims on potholes, popped tires, etc?

2010 Acura TSX – V6
I’m very interested in a new Acura TSX but the sportier V6 version comes fitted with 18″ rims on low profile tires- 235./45R18. I’ve never had 18″ wheels and with all the potholes in N. NJ I’ve heard they might be an issue. I also test drove the car and it almost seemed to feel a little out of balance- it was a loaner/demo and I wondered if maybe people hit some potholes. Despite luke warm reviews on the TSX I like the car but I don’t want to have to replace expensive wheels every year. Any other thoughts on this vehicle or recommendations on a reliable sports new or newer car would be appreciated.
